A helicopter carrying at least seven people crashed near Terrace, British Columbia, David Jephson, an executive at Terrace Search and Rescue, a local volunteer rescue group, said Monday.
No deaths had been confirmed. But some of those on board the heli-skiing flight had been sent to the hospital with serious injuries, Jephson said. Other choppers in the area were converging near the crash site to help with search and rescue efforts as night approached.
It was not clear what caused the crash, but Terrace Search and Rescue first received reports about the crash just before 4 p.m. local time, he said.
Terrace is a town of 12,000 residents located 70 miles from the Alaskan border. The Mills Memorial Hospital, a local medical center, was preparing to receive patients from the crash, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported. A person at the hospital declined to comment about the incident or the status of the patients.
